FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are Probiotics?
According to The World Health Organisation (WHO) Probiotics are live microorganisms that when administered in adequate quantities have a beneficial effect on the health of the consumer.
Each one of us has approximately 100 billion probiotic bacteria living in the intestine and although we should always have the same quantity, it can vary as a consequence of different factors like age, life style, stress, use of medications and from a poor diet.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROBIOTIC AND PREBIOTIC?
The term probiotic etymologically derives from the Greek “pro” for and “biotic” life (“for life”). It is currently used to designate microorganisms that have beneficial health effects for both humans and animals. Prebiotics (“before life”) make up the food of these probiotic microorganisms, stimulating the growth of beneficial gut bacteria protecting against harmful ones and restoring intestinal flora.
To better understand it through a metaphor: In the forest (the intestine), good trees (probiotic bacteria) that have a positive function for the environment (human body) have to grow. For these trees to grow strong and healthy, they need good fertilizer and food (prebiotic). We need good trees: healthy bacteria for the intestines. Our best defence is a healthy gut and our best soldiers are a rich and diverse gut microbiota.
WHAT IS MICROBIOTA?
The term “microbiota” refers to a group of microorganisms that coexist in a particular habitat, in this case, the human gut, and which accounts for approximately 2 kg of our body weight.
We also know it commonly as intestinal flora, although it is not usually the way to refer to it.
Our microbiota performs nutrition and metabolic functions, protecting and developing the body.
There is scientific evidence that the genetic material of the microorganisms that make up our microbiota is made up of more than 3.3 million genes, which makes up the human microbiome.
HOW DO PROBIOTICS FUNCTION IN OUR BODY?
Probiotics have the ability to digest certain substances that we ingest so that our body is able to assimilate them, therefore, they help us absorb more nutrients. In addition, they are the bacteria responsible for repopulating the walls of our intestines, thus forming the well-known “intestinal flora”. Maintaining a good balance between the bacteria that make up our microbiota, in addition to providing benefits to the digestive tract it also helps to maintain our immune system in good condition, contributing to the prevention of diseases and infections. Maintaining good health is closely linked to the state of our gut flora and digestive system in general.
CAN I FIND PROBIOTICS IN FOOD?
Yes. Live probiotics can be found naturally in fermented, unpasteurized foods such as yogurt and kefir, fermented vegetables and soya-based foods.
IF PROBIOTICS ARE ALREADY IN MY FOOD, WHY SHOULD I TAKE NATURALPHARMA PROBIOTIC SUPPLEMENTS?
Due to everyday factors such as stress, travel, poor diet, age, medications, etc. imbalances of healthy bacteria in the digestive tract are triggered.
NaturalPharma probiotics restore and maintain the balance of the beneficial microbiota, helping to digest nutrients from food and an important role is played in the production of the necessary vitamins.
DO WE NEED TO TAKE PROBIOTICS DAILY?
Previous generations had greater exposure to probiotic organisms through fermented vegetables and dairy foods. Although this intake has been lost as part of today´s diet. NaturalPharma recommends the daily consumption of probiotics.
WHAT ARE THE DIGESTIVE ENZYMES AND WHY DO WE NEED THEM?
Enzymes are molecules produced by our own body that help to break down nutrients in food that are absorbed by the digestive tract and utilized by the whole body. They play an important role in all of the functions of the human body, including digestion, breathing, the reproduction system, elimination and kidney and liver function.
The lack of some enzymes can hinder the functioning of the metabolism and digestive process. A poor diet, gastrointestinal disturbances and aging can affect the production of enzymes.
WHY IS THE QUANTITY AND TYPE OF STRAINS IMPORTANT IN A PROBIOTIC, AND HOW MANY STRAINS SHOULD I LOOK FOR?
Our probiotics provide specific benefits in certain situations. For this, the formula of our products contains a minimum contribution of 1010 CFU, and contain vitamins, minerals and organic plant extracts. It is important that probiotic supplements contain high amounts of Bifidobacterium to support the large intestine (colon) and Lactobacillus to support the small intestine and the urogenital tract.
WHY DO NATURALPHARMA PROBIOTICS USE LACTOBACILLUS AND BIFIDOBACTERIUM?
Multi-species probiotics have greater beneficial effects than Mono-species probiotics. Among the multi-species products, those that combine species of Bifidobacterium with Lactobacillus seem to have a superior effect compared to other combinations. This superior efficacy is due to the fact that the joint action of these strains produces lactic acid and acetic acid, reducing intestinal pH. In this way, an unfavorable environment is created for the survival of pathogenic bacteria and the rebalancing of the intestinal microbiota is favored.
WHO SHOULD CONSUME NATURALPHARMA PROBIOTICS?
The consumption of probiotics is suitable for the entire population. Although, when there is a basic pathology that compromises the proper functioning of the intestinal flora, it is advisable to supplement the usual diet with these beneficial bacteria.
CAN I TAKE NATURALPHARMA PROBIOTICS IF I AM ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN OR CELIAC?
NaturalPharma food supplements do not contain ingredients or additives with gluten in their composition and therefore can be taken without risk by people intolerant to gluten or celiac.
IF I DO NOT HAVE ANY DISORDERS SHOULD I TAKE NATURALPHARMA PROBIOTICS?
Probiotics help balance the intestinal microbiota and boost the immune system. They are microorganisms that are part of our intestinal microbiota and are considered safe, they can be taken continuously.
The consumption in recommended doses can prevent or reduce certain alterations in our body. They are recommended during periods of stress, colds, times of high physical activity and for certain disorders of the digestive system.

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE NATURALPHARMA PRODUCTS?
Our recommendation is to take the product on an empty stomach, although you can take them at any time during the day according to your schedule.
WHEN SHOULD I TAKE AND USE NATURALPHARMA SUPPLEMENTS?
Probiotics are recommended in the morning, about 15 minutes before breakfast and with cold liquids or liquids at room temperature. This is important, as these bacteria are sensitive to high temperatures, and if we consume them in contact with hot liquids, much of the live strains of bacteria could be lost. If taken together with antibiotics, it is not recommended to take them at the same time. It is advisable to wait about 2 hours after taking antibiotics before consuming the probiotics, as these could attack “good” bacteria and consequently lose a lot of their effectiveness.
PROBIOTICS MUST BE KEEPT IN THE REFRIGERATOR: IS IT THIS TRUE?
Our range of NaturalPharma Probiotics have been formulated especially to be kept at stable temperatures to maintain the probiotic level throughout the life of the product until the use-by date.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE MY DIET FOR THE CONSUMPTION OF THESE COMPLEMENTS?
In any case, it is always necessary to maintain a varied and balanced diet as well as healthy lifestyle habits to achieve, along with dietary supplements, improvements to your health and well-being.
